Verified Thermal Performance: New York House One
|
Insulating the crawl space and basement, we saved 35% ($400) on our Feb. 2026 power bill. Our lived-in prototype (Kingston, NY), indicates bio-based material performance.
Maintained 74°F to 80°F Temperature in a two story house using one downstairs heat source. The kitchen and living room floors were very cold before insulation. Insulation made them more comfortable and saved $400/mo. in February 2026 vs 2025.

Science-Based Carbon Storage
If hemp-lime retrofit systems were deployed at large scale across New York housing stock, the combined effects of carbon storage in materials plus reduced heating energy use could potentially represent millions of tons of avoided or stored CO₂ over time. Exact totals would require lifecycle analysis and measured deployment data.
Safe for Families and the Planet
Hemp-lime is a vapor-permeable insulation material that helps regulate moisture in walls, crawlspaces, and basements. Its moisture-buffering properties can reduce conditions that contribute to mold and mildew growth in damp spaces. It is also flame resistant and does not rely on PFAS “forever chemicals” used in some synthetic materials.
ICC-11 (International Code Council Team Leaders)
Creating New Building Rules: Henry's leadership as Certifications Director and President of the US Hemp Building Association (USHBA) and Sally (Board Certified Naturopath), assisted with getting hemp-lime officially into building codes (ICC) and Ulster County Building Code, ensuring that hemp-lime projects are "State of The Art," improving the quality of hemp-lime projects in Ulster county.
This wasn't easy work, all of our work was as volunteers, but it proved that determined volunteers can transform industries.

Research (Professors): We joined Cornell Ag Tech's Bio Economy Advisory Board and have attended Hemp Field Day at Cornell for 3 years to gather cultivar and processing best practices.
We are the only team with two members of the ICC-11 team that got Hemp-Lime into building code. |
Workforce (Students): We train through our delegates program and train contractors and architect on best practices for bio insulation jobs.
We have developed courses and have universities ready to launch train the trainer programs. We help train apprentices. |
Business (Contractors): We work with trained, certified builders to do the work. Through our Hemp-Lime Insulation Guild and US Hemp Building relationships, we are pioneers in business development.
We create productivity and efficiency tools to make team members successful. |
New York Hemp-House #1 RETROFIT GALLERY
Below is the history for NY Hemp-House #1. New projects are organized every week. To manage growth we create software for Guilds of any type to share. For active project details, visit the Guild on Voices for Progress. Notice the dramatic improvement that hemp-lime added to this home from the 1800s.
