Healthy Building retrofits

We help contractors and installers access state-funded training and high-value project leads. By joining the Guild, you gain the credentials needed to win government contracts for energy retrofits

We apply building science. This helps you deliver verified results for your clients. The Guild is hosted on Voices for Progress. Click here and start a free membership. The platform is how we build our county and state networks.

New solutions for Mold, Mildew & Insulation

In New York State, mold, dampness, and moisture damage lead to billions of dollars in property losses and health-related costs. In too many cases, conventional insulation and basement encapsulation systems trap moisture and worsen these conditions. Retrofits and repairs are market opportunities for new solutions.

Hemp-lime dates back to the 6th Century CE (501 to 600) with structures lasting over 1,000 years. Hygroscopic properties diffuse moisture within walls, crawlspaces, and basements, supporting and evaporation. The physics of equilibrium and diffusion create conditions that reduce mold and mildew growth, supporting healthier indoor air quality, longer-lasting buildings and lower energy cost while also storing CO2.

Best Practice promise - Research and Shared Knowledge

Toolkit: Best Practices, Research and Shared Knowledge: Each climate zone has different building science details. Our team offers you a strategic advantage through our working relationships with research universities, industry leaders, legislators, and industry leaders. Through collaboration across the network, guild members gain access to shared research, emerging best practices, and practical training connected to real-world projects.

Contractors do not have time to track changing building science, funding programs, or new installation methods. We provide research, documentation, and shared knowledge tools that help guild members stay informed, improve project quality, and identify new opportunities. We deliver results to your guild portal.

Money Hawk™: Funding Discovery
We discover business opportunities by researching budgets and purchasing departments, grants, workforce programs, and public funding opportunities at the city, state, federal, and foundation levels.

We identify projects, collaboration suggestions and funding sources that make projects possible.

A Nonprofit collaboration partner

Nonprofit Collaboration Partner: As a nonprofit collaboration partner, our network brings together research, relationships, and field experience to help guild members connect with new opportunities. We work alongside installers, trainers, municipalities, universities, and community organizations to support workforce development, healthy housing initiatives, and retrofit projects. Through these collaborations, members gain access to shared knowledge, funding pathways, community partnerships, and opportunities that can help grow local businesses and expand regional project activity.

Building Science training

Hemp-Lime 101 Building Code (Lecture) :
This course provides a study of the International Residential Code (IRC) 2024 Appendix BL Hemp Lime (Hempcrete) Construction.
  • SECTION BL101: General Standards
  • SECTION BL102: Official Definitions
  • SECTION BL103: Hemp-Lime Construction Mechanics
  • SECTION BL104: Approved Finishes
  • SECTION BL105: Fire Resistance Ratings
  • SECTION BL106: Thermal Performance Data
  • SECTION BL107: Mechanical Performance
  • SECTION BL108: Referenced Industry Standards
First Hand Experience: Participants have access to  the ICC-11 team that presented at code council (2022), leading to approvals. Our team developed the first hemp-lime retrofit on the East Coast, the first hemp-lime build from scratch in the region and has completed more projects in NY than any team.
Hemp-Lime 101 Damp and Mold (Lab - Hands On):
Learn the science of water management (bulk water, water vapor, condensation and evaporation. Learn the role of air barriers, water barriers, permeability vs "Breathable Wall" - which is misleading and "Vapor Open."

This hands-on lab focuses on mixing and installing hemp-lime materials for crawlspaces, basements, wall assemblies and novel applications. We share state of the art science on the topic related topic of interest.

Participants learn material combinations and design considerations, heavy equipment planning, job site prep, anchor and form setting, mix ratios (tamping techniques and the importance of following manufacturer guidelines), finishes and clean up considerations.

Through the Guild, member gain first access to job sites for hands-on learning and income.
